Individual AAC Coaching
This is for you if…
you are new to learning about AAC (alternative and augmentative communication) and you are looking for some guidance getting started
you’ve had support getting started and now you’re looking for ways to keep things going
you are a parent, family member, therapist or friend of someone who communicates using AAC.
you support any kind of AAC communicators - those with more emergent or more advanced communication skills, those who are part-time and/or full-time AAC communicators, and those who are multimodal communicators who may speak and/or sign.
It’s all about what you need.
And if you’re not sure about what you need then we’ll start there. In our first session we’ll create a plan, either for you to follow on your own if we’re only meeting once, or for us to follow together during our work together. We focus on the things that are important to you. This could be literally anything. Here are some common areas people choose to focus on:
learning the basics of how your child’s or student’s device works
figuring out which communication strategies support you and your AAC communicator best
exploring low and high tech AAC options to expand your baseline knowledge of AAC
creating an at home literacy learning plan for your AAC communicator
strategies for feeling more comfortable incorporating AAC in play and everyday life
finding balance between AAC and other communication modalities
fostering your AAC communicator’s sense of identity as a learner and reader and communicator
building confidence to advocate for your students and/or continued training for educators
developing a practice as classroom teacher of including AAC in classroom through the use of Universal Design
building confidence as a parent in advocating for your child’s communication needs at school

FAQ:
Can I bring a friend, family member or co-worker? Yes, if there is another person that is equally as involved in supporting your child or student AND you have already identified clear and specific areas around which you’d like coaching. The intake form will you ask you some questions around this to help us figure out what will be most supportive.
Do I have to pay for all sessions in advance? Yes. This allows me to save a spot in my calendar for you.
Do I have to schedule all of my sessions up front? You get to decide. You can plan them all at and schedule them in advance. Or you can schedule them as you go.
Will I be refunded for any unused sessions? No. You will have either 3 or 6 months (depending on what you sign up for) to use your sessions. You will receive monthly reminders to sign up for your next session if you have not already scheduled them. You will also receive reminders for sessions you have scheduled.
What if I need to cancel/reschedule? You can change a scheduled session at anytime up to 24 hours priors to your session. You are able to do this from a link in your confirmation email. Emergencies happen and I do understand that sometimes people need to cancel within 24 hours of a session. If this happens, you’ll have 7 days to reschedule for another time. The session can be more than 7 days out but you need to get it on the calendar within 7 days. If you don’t do this, you will forfeit your session. Usually in these situations, my clients and I are in communication and we work something out.
What if I really want individual coaching but I just can’t afford it? I totally understand. It’s really important to me to have a variety of options for people to access regardless of financial resources. There are a few things you can do.
1) Enter my monthly free coaching session raffle. Once a month I randomly choose someone for an hour of free coaching.
2) Take a look at the group coaching options. Those have a lower price and can be a great starting point!
3) Join my scholarship waitlist. Since my scholarship fund is a work in progress, there’s not enough money to provide scholarships yet. BUT…once it gets big enough, I’ll send an email to folks who’ve expressed interest.
